About a year ago, the Unnao rape case raised many questions against the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh. Now, it is making headlines again.

There was a road accident on the evening of 28 July in Raebareli. A truck, traveling on the wrong side, collided with a car. The car was carrying the Unnao rape survivor, two of her family members and their lawyer.

Although the police claim it was an accident, suspicions have arisen about whether there is more. Here are three reasons why.

The Truck’s Number Plate

The truck's registration plate was painted black and the colour could be rubbed off with a cloth. Clearly, something fishy was underway even though the police dispute it.

“The truck driver says the registration plate was painted black as the vehicle had been financed and he had defaulted on his payments. In order to not be tracked down, he had painted over the registration plate.”

Why Were Security Personnel Missing?

At the time of the accident, why were the security personnel assigned to the survivor missing? The survivor and her family had been receiving regular threats and seven security personnel had been assigned to them. The personnel were on rotating shifts and four were to stay at home and three were to accompany her while commuting.

However, when the survivor and her family were returning from Raebareli jail, they were not with them.

The police says:

“We had a word with the security personnel who said that the car, Swift Dzire, was too small to accommodate all of them: They were themselves four and had to pick up someone from Raebareli. They had been asked to not accompany them due to space constraints.”

Raincoat-Clad Man Spotted at the Accident Site

A raincoat-clad man was spotted at the site of the accident. It is being said that he was tracking the survivor and relaying information over the phone. He started shooting a video when the accident occurred and received flack from locals for it.

He escaped as soon as he got the chance. Was this also a coincidence?
