Watch: Federer Wins Record 8th Wimbledon Without Dropping a Set

Grand Slam finals are a big deal. The top performing tennis players who have beaten some of the best in the world, fight to win the coveted Trophy and permanently enter the tennis archives.

This year’s Wimbledon final between Roger Federer and Marin Cilic was, however, a lopsided affair with the former clinching his record eighth All England Club trophy on Sunday.

Federer won his 19th major trophy overall, capping a marvelous fortnight in which he didn't drop a set by overwhelming Cilic 6-3, 6-1, 6-4 on Sunday in a lopsided final that was more coronation than contest.

He surpassed Pete Sampras and William Renshaw’s record of seven and became the oldest player to win Wimbledon in the Open era.

When it ended, with an ace from Federer after merely 1 hour, 41 minutes, he raised both arms overhead. A minute or so later, he was sitting on the sideline, wiping tears from his eyes.
