A 12-year-old boy was allegedly tortured and beaten to death by his seniors in a school in Rishikesh. The school authorities, instead of reporting the crime, responded by secretly burying the boy's body in the campus, police said on Friday, 29 March.

The boy's family, who live 200 km away in Hapur, had no idea for almost a day. The incident took place on 10 March, when a group of boys started hitting the kid for having ‘stolen biscuits’.

“When the boy’s father came to us, he told us that his son has been murdered. He said that he did not die of food poisoning. The issue is under investigation. It is disappointing that the school manager himself hid the boy’s body. This, in itself, raises a lot of questions as to why did this happen? Why was the child’s body hidden away like this?”

The boy’s father alleges that he is being threatened by the school authorities.

“Now the manager is threatening me and I am sure that many children in the past must’ve died too.”

The two boys involved in the crime have been booked under Section 302 (murder), two staff members and a warden have been booked under Section 201 (for disappearance of evidence) and Section 302.

“We got a child’s death memo, in which the cause of the child’s death was not clear. Prima Facie, poisoning was a reason that was coming out most prominently. After receiving the post-mortem report, we understood that the injuries were internal. The internal injuries resulted in shock and hemorrhage, because of which he died. With regards to this, five people have been booked under Section 302 and they have been sent to the judicial custody.”

The body was dug up by the police on Tuesday and was sent for a post-mortem.
