1. Supreme Court Declares Right to Privacy a Fundamental Right

In a landmark decision on Thursday, the Supreme Court unanimously declared the right to privacy a fundamental right under the Constitution.

A nine-judge Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice of India JS Khehar ruled that “right to privacy is an intrinsic part of Right to Life and Personal Liberty under Article 21 and entire Part III of the Constitution”.

The ruling on the highly contentious issue was to deal with a batch of petitions challenging the Centre's move to make Aadhaar mandatory for availing the benefits of various social welfare schemes.

2. Ram Rahim Rape Case Verdict: Have Always Obeyed the Law, Writes Godman

The situation in the states of Punjab and Haryana has suddenly become tense as a CBI court in Panchkula is scheduled to deliver a verdict on the rape case against Dera Sacha Sauda (DSS) chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh on 25 August, Friday.

The rape case dates back to 2002, and is based on the accusations of two women, who used to be members of the DSS, that they were sexually exploited by the spiritual leader at the headquarters of the sect in Haryana's Sirsa.

It is estimated that over a lakh followers have already congregated in the Haryana town, and the number is expected to increase further. Security has been stepped up in both the states as large-scale violence can break out once the verdict is pronounced.

3. Swine Flu Cases Rise 9-Fold As India’s Response System Falters

So far this year, H1N1 or swine flu has infected 18,000 people and killed 871, a nine-fold rise from the 1,786 cases and 265 deaths reported last year.

Two years after a massive outbreak in 2015 that infected 42,500 people and killed almost 3,000, India’s response remains inadequate.

4. Pre-Book the Reliance JioPhone 4G Feature Phone For Rs 500

Reliance is all set to meet the heavy demand for its 4G VoLTE feature phone called JioPhone from 24 August onwards.

The pre-booking started from 5:30 pm onwards across the country, and you can even sign up for the device via MyJio app.

According to details revealed earlier this week, one can pre-book the JioPhone through online and offline channels. The offline mode comprises of Jio retailers and multi-brand device retailers including the Reliance Digital stores network.

5. Hardly Susheel: Jacqueline and Sidharth on Stunts & Being Shirtless
