A Lieutenant ranked army officer, identified as Ummer Fayaz Parray, was found dead in South Kashmir's Shopian district on Wednesday, police sources said.

The 22-year-old's body was found riddled with bullets in the district's Herman area.
Initial reports said that in December 2016, Parray was commissioned in a Rajputana Rifles battalion in Akhnoor.

According to the police, the officer, hailing from neighbouring Kulgam district, had gone to Shopian to attend a relative's marriage. Local reports suggest that the officer was abducted.

An army official said they have received inputs and are verifying the circumstances in which the officer was found dead.
