Amid clamour over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s absence from Parliament, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned till Wednesday.
Members of the Opposition, including the Congress and the SP, joined ranks in questioning PM Modi’s absence, and demanded that a discussion on demonetisation be held in his presence.
BSP Chief Mayawati invoked the common man, saying that demonetisation has forced over “90 percent of the population (to stand) in bank queues.” CPI (M)’s Sitaram Yechury also slammed Modi, declaring that the PM was will willing to speak “everywhere, but not in Parliament.”
MoS Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, meanwhile, retorted that the Opposition seemed to be in no mood to hold a discussion, and was, therefore, only looking for stray excuses to stall Parliament.
