1. Talwars Walk Out of Dasna Jail

Rajesh and Nupur Talwar were released from Ghaziabad's Dasna Jail on 16 October, three days after they were acquitted.

The Allahabad High Court on 12 October acquitted the Talwars, parents of Aarushi, in the 2008 murder of their daughter and domestic help, Hemraj. The High Court struck down a 2013 CBI court order convicting them for the murders.

2. Taj Mahal Built by Traitors, Not Our History: BJP MLA Sangeet Som

Soon after the Uttar Pradesh government courted controversy by leaving the Taj Mahal out of a state tourism booklet, BJP MLA Sangeet Som stirred a fresh debate by saying the Mughal-era mausoleum was built by ‘traitors’, and should find no place in Indian history.

Many people were disappointed that the Taj Mahal was removed from the UP tourism booklet. What history are we talking about? The creator of Taj Mahal (Shahjahan) imprisoned his father. He wanted to wipe out Hindus. If these people are part of our history, then it is very sad and we will change this history.

4. Seven Dead, Several Feared Trapped in Bengaluru Building Collapse

At least seven people died on Monday, 16 October, after a residential building collapsed in Ejipura in Bengaluru. Several people are feared trapped under the debris.

Out of the seven dead, at least five were residents of the same building and one was a neighbour. Bengaluru Development Minister KJ George said the kin of the deceased will get Rs 5 lakh each, and the injured will get Rs 50,000 as compensation.

A three-year-old girl was orphaned in the building collapse, and has been adopted by the government.

5. Never Thought of Marrying Dharmendra: Hema Malini Speaks Her Heart

Hema Malini’s latest biography authored by Ram Kamal Mukherjee releases on a special day – her 69th birthday. The book titled ‘Hema Malini: Beyond the Dream Girl features a foreword written by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and has some straight from the heart memoirs from the actor’s filmi and political career. Besides Malini the actor and politician, the biography also has some details from some of her deeply personal moments – like the time when she almost got married to actor Jeetendra.
