Prime Minister Narendra Modi invoked the Indus Water Treaty. He said water that belongs to India cannot be allowed to go to Pakistan. Modi said that he will strive to get the Indus river water back from Pakistan, because farmers have the right to use that water.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was speaking at a foundation stone laying ceremony of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bathinda, Punjab on Friday. Addressing a crowd there, Modi asked the people of Pakistan to tell their rulers to fight corruption and black money, instead of fighting a proxy war with India.
The 750-bedded AIIMS will be set up with an outlay of Rs 925 crore and it would be spread over 177 acres of land on the Bathinda-Dabwali road. The land has been given by the state government. It is expected to be completed by June 2020, officials said.
Heavy security arrangements have been made in the wake of Modi's visit to Bathinda. On this occasion, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Union Health Minister J P Nadda, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal, Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Union Minister and Punjab BJP Chief Vijay Sampla, among others were also present.
Raking up the issue of the Indian Army’s surgical strike along the LoC in September, Modi extolled the soldiers saying:
“Jab hamare bahadur jawano ne surgical strike kiya, seema paar hadkamp mach gaya (Look at the valour of our army jawans. When they conducted the surgical strike, it created havoc across border)” (With inputs from PTI)
