A painting pig saved from the slaughterhouse is set to become the world's first animal to host her very own art exhibition.
The porky painter, called Pigcasso, became famous for her abstract art – which sells for up to £3000 – after being rescued from squalid conditions at a pig farm in South Africa when she was just four weeks old.
The piggy prodigy became the first animal to host her own exhibition on 19 January.
The pink pop-up display, called OINK, opened in Cape Town, before moving to London, Paris, Berlin and Amsterdam.
It featured colourful artwork, all created by the 450lb pig, with proceeds going to Farm Sanctuary SA – a sanctuary for rescued farm animals.
Joanne Lefson, who rescued Pigcasso and helped nurture her artistic skills, said: "Pigcasso isn’t that different to other pigs, she is smart, curious and intelligent. The only significant difference is she has a ton of talent when she paints.
“I am overwhelmed and so proud of Pigcasso. From bacon to art exhibition, it’s as if pigs can fly. People are always in disbelief when they see Pigcasso’s art here at Farm Sanctuary SA where she lives, they can’t believe how good the art really is.”
“They simply can’t believe the art is done by a pig. With so much news distraction in the world today, I am so proud that Pigcasso can use her unique talent to get a voice and highlight the dire effect that animal agriculture is having on climate change. We hope to inspire every person to make conscious choices that will cultivate a sustainable planet for all."
