While BJP workers celebrated the first anniversary of demonetisation with full fervour, the opposition parties across the nation celebrated 8 November as ‘Black Day’.
Protests erupted across the nation where people took to the streets and demanded answers from PM Narendra Modi regarding the said objectives that the move was expected to fulfil.
In Bhopal, women wore black and protested claiming that women across the nation were the worst affected when the note ban happened.
Youth Congress leaders in Delhi had a unique way of protesting against BJP’s celebrations. The party workers formed a long line in front of Reserve Bank of India as a tribute to the people who lost their lives standing in long lines to deposit and withdraw money.
Congress leaders also asked PM Modi to state the amount of black money that he has seized and apologise to the common people who suffered the most.
Congress Leader Shaktisinh Goyal claimed that the people who actually had black money turned it into white during demonetisation but the common people were in pain because of the move.
BJP leaders also justified their celebrations and claimed that the common people faced no problems because of demonetisation except for the initial discomfort and that the long term effects of the move could not be estimated so easily.
Civil Aviation Minister Jayant Sinha claimed that the move was not a scam but a miracle for the Indian economy.
Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also hit back at the Congress observing the anniversary as a black day by claiming that it goes on to show that they are the ones who have black money.
