Next Target Is Tokyo Olympics: Vinesh Phogat After Returning Home

Wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who won a gold medal in 50kg freestyle wrestling at the ongoing 18th edition of the Asian Games in Jakarta-Palembang, arrived at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport on 25 August, Saturday.

Vinesh became the first Indian woman to win a gold medal in the 50 kg category at the Asian Games 2018.

Phogat said her next focus was on the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

It’s the love of people that is making me play well and despite injuries, I have been able to give my best. I play to win the love of the people of India. My next target is the Olympics, but before that there is world championship and all the other games in the coming year where I want to emerge the best.

The 23-year-old defeated her Japanese opponent Yuki Irie by 6-2 to give India it’s second gold of the tournament.

She also won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2018 in April this year.

India currently stands at the eight spot in the medal table with a total tally of 29 –comprising of 7 gold, 5 silver, and 17 bronze medals.
