Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a two-day visit to Gujarat, made a stop at his hometown Vadnagar on 8 October and paid a nostalgic visit to his school, a first since coming to power in 2014. He also visited Bharuch, where he laid the foundation of a barrage over Narmada river.

In Vadnagar, the PM launched the ‘Intensified Mission Indradhanush’ and lambasted the previous Congress-led UPA over the state of the healthcare sector.

The last health policy was announced during Atalji’s (former BJP Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee) regime around 15 years back. After that, the government that came to power had some hatred for people’s development.

He said his government was committed to making healthcare affordable to the poor and accused the earlier governments of not having cared to evolve a comprehensive health policy and were not concerned about increasing the number of seats in the medical colleges in the country.

Later in the day, while laying the foundation stone for the barrage over Narmada river in Bharuch, he said that it will save people “money, time and petrol”. The barrage, he said, will connect south Gujarat with Bharuch. He also flagged off the Antyodaya Express, which will commute between Surat and Jaynagar in Bihar.

He also added that “political will” helped the government build the Sardar Sarovar Dam, while taking a dig at the Opposition by saying that no “matter how many thieves come and go, truth and sincerity will win.”

I have taken birth in the land of Gandhi and Sardar Patel. So it does not matter how many thieves come and go, but ultimately truth and sincerity will win.
