Three people were arrested in connection with the case of a sarpanch making a man spit and lick his own saliva off the floor in Bihar’s Nalanda.
The humiliating punishment was meted out for trying to enter the home of an influential man of a village allegedly without permission. He was also beaten with slippers by women.
The victim, Mahesh Thakur, had reportedly arrived at the sarpanch’s home to avail of a government scheme. But instead, he was accused of overstepping by entering the house without knocking, and was made to endure public humiliation.
Nalanda, which is about 70 kms from capital Patna, is the home district of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
The accused included Manjhi and a village influential man Dharmendra Yadav, who is the kin of the person in whose house Thakur had tried to enter allegedly without permission, and the FIR was registered on the basis of the statement of the victim.
Bihar Minister Nand Kishore Yadav reacted to the incident, saying, “Such incidents will not be tolerated, we will take strict action against the culprits.”
