Three Muslim clerics were allegedly attacked on a moving train on Thursday while returning to their village in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh. The clerics said that they were attacked while getting off the train at their destination by a group of 6-7 men. One of the victims said they had not interacted with the attackers during the train journey. “Their only issue was that we had handkerchiefs tied on our heads,” he said.
The local police in Baghpat said that the “dispute” could have been over train seats. All three clerics, who taught in a madarsa, have suffered severe injuries and are undergoing treatment at a district hospital.
