1. Despite Stand-off, China and India Exchange Pleasantries at G-20

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday exchanged pleasantries with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and appreciated India’s resolve against terrorism. He wished India success in economic and social development. This bonhomie comes after the recent stand-off between the two neighbours over Sikkim.

Modi promised full cooperation and best wishes to the Chinese president for the upcoming BRICS Summit in China. Modi and Xi had a conversation on a range of issues, MEA spokesperson Gopal Baglay said.

2. West Bengal Continues to be Highly Tense

There were no new bouts of violence in West Bengal on Friday, but it continues to be highly tense.

Fresh violence erupted in West Bengal’s Baduria in the state’s North 24 Parganas district on Thursday, following the imposition of Section 144 after two communities clashed allegedly over a derogatory Facebook post.

3. MS Dhoni’s Birthday Celebrated With India Win

Along expected lines, India defeated West Indies in the series-decider to win the 5-match ODI series 3-1 on Thursday. At the Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica, the Indian bowlers restricted the home team to a modest 205-9, after which the batsmen – powered by skipper Virat Kohli’s record-breaking century – knocked off the required runs in under 37 overs.

4. ‘Mom’ Movie Review: Silent and Screaming, Sridevi Steals the Show

God couldn’t be everywhere, and so he made mothers. At one point, Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s character in Mom even spells this out. By and large, this is the overarching theme of the film – a mother doing everything imaginable (and unimaginable), to avenge the crime against her daughter.

The theme is quite similar to Raveena Tandon’s Maatr, which was released earlier this year, but unlike Maatr, Mom has a strong hold on the narrative.

5. CBI Raids Lalu Yadav Over Tender Irregularity, Registers Case

The CBI on Friday registered a case against former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi, their son Tejaswi who is Bihar’s deputy chief minister and others on allegations of awarding tender for hotels in Ranchi and Puri in 2006.

The investigative agency carried out searches at the residence of Yadav and a former MD of IRCTC, according to PTI sources.
