Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a two-day visit to Gujarat by offering prayers at the famous Dwarkadhish temple in Dwarka, on Saturday, 7 October. He arrived at the temple just a few days after Rahul Gandhi visited the temple as part of his election campaign in Gujarat.

The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for a four-lane cable-stayed bridge between Okha and Beyt Dwarka, and said it was a link between old and new Dwarka.

Modi recalled his days as Gujarat Chief Minister, and criticised the UPA government for not paying attention to the state.

There were lots of possibilities of development in the tourism sector here, but the UPA government had an indifferent attitude towards Gujarat because of the BJP government in the state... I clearly remember.

Referring to newspaper headlines, the Prime Minister said he was happy that the changes made by the GST Council had been welcomed across the country.

It was like Diwali when we made some important changes in the Goods and Services Tax (on 6 October). I had already stated earlier that we would look into the GST for three months and make changes, plugging loopholes as per experience.

Modi announced India’s first Marine Police and Research Institute to be established in Devbhumi, Dwarka. The idea behind this was to safeguard India’s coastlines, he said.

Modi is also scheduled to visit his birthplace, Vadnagar, for the first time since becoming the Prime Minister.
