Upon his arrival to inaugurate the 2018 Defence Expo on 12 April, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was greeted with slogans of “Go Back Modi”, spurred by protests over the Cauvery water issue, led by Tamil Nadu opposition parties.

Speaking at the event in Mahabalipuram, PM Modi highlighted the advances in India's defence scenario, and elaborated on his plans for the same.

PM Modi said that his government has taken action while the previous governments have only been planning and discussing for years. “You would recall the long-drawn process of procurement of fighter aircraft that never reached a conclusion”.

We’ve not only taken bold action to meet our immediate critical requirements but have also initiated a new process to procure 110 fighter aircraft.

“Over the years, India has never tried to invade any country or tried to wage war with any one, They have sent troops to the aid of other countries whenever needed”, the prime minister said.

Rather than winning countries through wars, India believed in winning hearts.
