Zayd Menk, a 17-year-old artist from Zimbabwe, has created a perfect scale replica of the midtown Manhattan skyscrapers, using discarded computer chips, ceiling fans, broken mobile phones, and an array of drained batteries. It took him over three months to complete the project – and construct each skyscraper to a finite 0.0635:100 scale.

In total, he used 263 hot glue sticks, 11 CPUs, 27 motherboards, 15 batteries, 2 clocks, 4 watches, 3 hard drives, 4 audio cards, 7 power supplies and 13 floppy disk readers to make the model.

I’ve always thought that the tiny components of PCBs look like small cities, so I think It was some sort of subconscious thing that just clicked in my head. However some buildings were particularly challenging – mainly because of their unique shapes and sizes.

He collected e-waste from his house and asked friends and family to help. He researched on the exact size of each building, and then hand-cut the trash using a saw.

In the beginning, he planned to create a local city of Zimbabwe, but later decided to recreate a model of Midtown Manhattan.

After the project was completed, the response online was overwhelmingly positive.
