A Latvian company 'Aerones' has become the first in the world to successfully carry out a drone jump by any human.
Ingus Augstkalns, a skydiver was picked up by the 28-propeller drone from the top of a 393-feet-high radio tower. The drone travelled to an elevation of 1082 feet from where Augstkalns let go of the handle and parachuted back safely to the ground.
Engineers at Aerones spent six months on getting the drone ready for the incredible feat. The payload was increased to a whopping 200 kilograms. Weighing 70kg, the battery powered drone possesses an impressive flight time of ten minutes and costs $37,000.
Through the jump, the company wanted to showcase the incredible potential of drone technology in areas of defence, fire-fighting, and sports broadcasting.
