Despite facing severe backlash from the BJP, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor stood by his statement made on Wednesday, in which he said that the BJP will create a "Hindu Pakistan" in India if it comes to power after the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

2. Section 377 in SC: Hearing to Resume on 17 July

The Supreme Court will resume hearing petitions filed by 12 individuals seeking the scrapping of Section 377 of the IPC, which criminalises homosexuality, on Tuesday, 17 July.

As the Supreme Court heard petitions for the third consecutive day, the five-judge Constitution Bench gave some pretty strong statements that suggest the draconian law might be scrapped after all.

3. Amit Shah Meets Nitish Kumar in Patna Amid Reports of Tussle

BJP chief Amit Shah met Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Patna early on 12 July. Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi also attended the morning meeting held at the state guest house. Shah is scheduled to meet the CM for dinner at his official residence later in the day.

The meetings come amid speculation of friction between the BJP and the JD(U) over seat sharing for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, with the JD(U) asserting its "elder brother" status.
