The Supreme Court on Thursday, 19 April, dismissed petitions seeking independent probe into the death of special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) judge Brijgopal Harkishan Loya, who was hearing the high-profile Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake-encounter case. The petitioners called the verdict a black day for the judiciary while, the BJP went on the offensive against both the petitioners and the Congress party calling the petitions an attempt "to settle political scores".
