1. Two Big Achievements for India on Day 9 of Asian Games

There were two massive achievements at the Asian Games for India on Monday, 27 August.

PV Sindhu became the first-ever Indian to reach the final of a badminton event in Asian Games history and 20-year-old Neeraj Chopra became the first-ever male javelin thrower to win a gold at the Asiad.

PV Sindhu beat world number two Akane Yamaguchi to reach the final of the women’s singles event and will now play world number 1 Tai Tzu Ying on 28 August for the top spot on the podium.

2. One Killed in Ahmedabad Building Collapse

One person died and four others were rescued after two building blocks constructed under a government housing scheme nearly two decades ago collapsed in Ahmedabad’s Odhav locality on the night of Sunday, 26 August.

According to the rescue team, five people were trapped under the debris of the building. While one of them died, the four injured were moved to Shardaben Hospital.

3. Three Dead, Nine Injured in Jacksonville Shooting

A gunman opened fire at an online video game tournament on Sunday, 26 August, that was being live streamed from a Florida mall, killing two people and then fatally shooting himself in an attack that sent several others to hospitals, authorities said.

Jacksonville Sheriff Mike Williams said authorities believe 24-year-old David Katz of Baltimore carried out the attack using at least one handgun at the Jacksonville Landing, a collection of restaurants and shops along the St Johns River.

5. Army Orders Action Against Major Gogoi for ‘Fraternising’ With Local

The Indian Army's Court of Inquiry (CoI) has held Major Leetul Gogoi guilty in the Srinagar hotel incident case and has ordered to initiate disciplinary action, holding him accountable for violating the official Army policy on fraternising with a local woman "source" and for being away from the place of duty while on active service in an operational area.

Major Gogoi, along with another Army officer, Sameer Ahmed, were questioned at a Srinagar police station after an argument erupted at Hotel Grand Mamta, on 23 May, where the hotel staff refused to let a woman, who was accompanying the Major, in.
