Former Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Speaker Kavinder Gupta was sworn in as the state’s Deputy Chief Minister on Monday, 30 April, a day after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Nirmal Singh tendered his resignation.
This is the first major reshuffle in the PDP-BJP government led by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.
Speaking after the reshuffle, CM Mufti welcomed the ‘new team’ and said:
Singh will now take over from Gupta as the Assembly speaker.

Twin blasts in the Afghan capital Kabul killed 26 people on Monday, 30 April, including journalists who had arrived to report on the first explosion and who were apparently targeted by a suicide bomber in a second attack, officials said.
According to news agency, AFP, terror outfit Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the twin Kabul suicide attacks.
The Afghan Journalists Safety Committee said seven journalists had been killed; French news agency Agence France-Presse confirmed that its chief photographer in Afghanistan, Shah Marai, was among the dead. A Reuters photographer was wounded in the attack.

In a case of caste profiling, candidates appearing for the post of constables in Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar were allegedly labelled with their caste on their chest during medical examination at a district hospital, reported ANI.
Congress President Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter to condemn the incident, slamming the Bharatiya Janata Party-run government in the state for the incident.

While actor Akshay Kumar bagged a National Award for his performance in the film Rustom, the fact that the actor and Twinkle Khanna, producer, author and Kumar’s wife, have decided to auction the costume that they have referred to as ‘uniform’ and the one that he wore in the film to raise money for their NGO, has not gone down too well with netizens.
This is not the first time that the costume that Kumar wore in the film has been in the limelight. When the film released, it was the inaccuracies in the said uniform that had drawn the ire of the internet.
