Hours after a high-pitched political drama saw Nitish Kumar resign only to return as Bihar Chief Minister but this time in alliance with the BJP, estranged ally and RJD boss Lalu Prasad Yadav said the “people of Bihar had been backstabbed” by the state’s CM, who was only “looking for an excuse” to join hands with the BJP.

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, whose party was a part of the grand alliance in Bihar, said the JD(U) chief had deserted the state’s grand alliance for his ‘vested interest’.

Gandhi also added that Nitish had joined hands with the same communal powers that he sought to defeat as part of the mahagathbandhan in Bihar.

Senior party leader Digvijaya Gandhi echoed him, questioning Nitish’s principles in the wake of his about-face. Singh also questioned the “last-minute-train” manner in which Nitish acted on Wednesday night.

The BJP, however, remained unfazed and welcomed Nitish’s ‘courageous’ step against ‘corrupt’ ally Lalu Prasad Yadav.
