Another Sunday in 2017 saw Kidambi Srikanth give Indian fans a reason to watch something besides cricket. The Indian shuttler won his second straight super series title at the French Open after beating Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto.
With his 21-14, 21-13 victory over Nishimoto in the finals, Srikanth became the first Indian to win four Super Series titles in a season and only the fourth men’s player ever to win four or more in a season.
When asked about reaching a career-best World No1 ranking after his win, Srikanth said:
“I am just happy with the way I performed in the last couple of weeks. There were some close matches. I feel I was little lucky to pull through those matches, otherwise I am pleased with how it went for me,” added the 24-year-old who now has six Super Series titles to his name.
