The air force and Navy helicopters are working in tandem to ensure that relief material reaches the severely affected areas in Kerala where floods have caused massive human and infrastructural loss over the past two weeks. The number of deaths has crossed the 350-mark.

The Quint travelled to the NDRF camp at Ad Lux Exhibition and Convention Centre on the outskirts of Ernakulam district from where the rescue teams are picking up relief material to deliver it to those in need.

Tam Chacko, a local, told The Quint that helicopters were picking up relief material and taking it to remote camps sheltering at least 1500 people. "We are bringing vegetables, napkins, candles and bread etc," he added.

A truck, carrying food and vegetables, to Puthuseery in Kerala's Palakkad district, got stranded in water, running chest deep. Even though locals tried to make a raft with the help of PVC pipes but to no avail.

The truck had to return without distributing any relief material or food. However, a team of Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services arrived with a couple of dinghies and an engine to facilitate the movement of relief material.
