The Game of Thrones is still on in Karnataka. BS Yeddyurappa resigned as the Chief Minister of Karnataka on 19 May – a post he held for 55 hours – making way for the Congress-Janata Dal (Secular) combine to take over.
HD Kumaraswamy is likely to take oath as Chief Minister on 21 May.
A visibly upset BS Yeddyurappa delivered an emotional speech during the scheduled floor test, before submitting his resignation to state governor Vajubhai Vala.
After Yeddyurappa stepped down as the chief minister, Congress and JD(S) MLAs flashed victory signs on the floor of the House. Moments later, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi lashed out at the BJP for allegedly attempting to arm-twist theCongress and JD(S) MLAs.
Opposition leaders were quick to congratulate the mandate in Karnataka, BSP chief Mayawati congratulated BSP-Congress-JD(S) MLAs and workers and called the dramatic turn of events in Karnataka a “defeat of BJP’s arm-twisting”.
West Bengal CM and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee tweeted saying she has been invited to HD Kumaraswamy’s oath-taking ceremony.
