The first-of-its-kind press conference in Independent India by four senior judges of the Supreme Court on Friday, 12 January, sent ripples down the Indian legal fraternity. Justices Jasti Chelameswar, Ranjan Gogoi, Madan Lokur and Kurian Joseph said that the situation in the top court was "not in order" and many "less desirable things" have taken place.

Sharing a letter they had written to Chief Justice of India two months ago, the four serving judges appealed to the nation to preserve the independence of the judiciary, asserting that "CJI Dipak Misra has left us with no option but to go public about what is going on within the collegium."

Speaking to The Quint, senior advocate Kamini Jaiswal weighed in on the controversy surrounding the letter sent by the judges to the CJI highlighting the improper functioning of the apex court.
