1. Review: Jab Harry Met Sejal is Like Hoping For a Miracle in Vain
If only Jab Harry Met Sejal had met the audience halfway. Or, perhaps an honest viewer before the Imtiaz Ali movie reached the screens. Because, this is a debacle there’s no recovering from.
The movie, which stars Anushka Sharma and Shah Rukh Khan begins promisingly enough – filled with the promise of lush European countryside, great styling and panoramic shots – but plunges downhill far too quickly.

2. Is the ‘Braid Chopping’ Scare the New Monkey Man?
A series of bizarre incidents, where women’s braids are mysteriously being cut off, have been reported from several parts of north India over the last few weeks, with the latest being an incident in Greater Noida in NCR on 3 August.
“I was sleeping, I got up at 3 am to pee. When I came back I saw my hair on the bed. I woke my husband up and told him what had happened, I got really scared. I asked him to check on the girls as well. Their hair had also been cut. Two of my daughters had their hair open and their hair was cut, my younger daughter had a ponytail which was also cut”, said a woman from Delhi’s Mayapuri area, one of the several women who have had similar claims.

3. Respect Tharoor’s Right to Silence on Sunanda: HC to Arnab Goswami
The Delhi High Court heard a fresh application by Shashi Tharoor seeking to restrain Arnab Goswami and Republic TV from making defamatory publications against him in connection with the death of his wife, Sunanda Pushkar.
The court has asked Goswami and Republic TV to reply to the plea filed by Tharoor, and added that the journalist and the channel have to respect Tharoor's right to silence on the issue.

4. I Should Have Got the Khel Ratna 12 Years Back: Devendra Jhajharia
Devendra Jhajharia, who has been recommended for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, said that he should have received the award 12 years back. The javelin thrower won both of his gold medals at the Paralympic Games with a world record throw.
First, he clinched a gold at Athens in 2004, and then broke the world record again at Rio.
Jhajharia believes that he should have received the Khel Ratna after he won the gold medal at Athens.

5. Here’s Why Mithali Raj Not Receiving a Khel Ratna Isn’t a Big Deal
When para athlete Devendra Jhajharia (javelin throw) and hockey player Sardar Singh were recommended for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna on Thursday, a section of sports fans in India were disappointed to not see Indian cricket team’s captain Mithali Raj’s name in the list.
Mithali Raj, who led India to their second World Cup final last month, also broke the record for the leading run-scorer in ODIs during the competition. She has captained India in most number of ODIs (109) as well.
But, what Mithali’s supporters seem to have forgotten is that the deadline for submitting the names for the Khel Ratna was on 30 April, which was before the women’s World Cup began.

6. India Post Another 600-Plus Total and Reduce SL to 50/2 on Day Two
India virtually batted Sri Lanka out of the second Test in Colombo on Friday, by crossing the 600-run mark for the second match in a row, setting themselves up for another big win on a pitch that is offering plenty to the spinners.
India, resuming the day at 344/3, went on to declare at 622/9 post Tea, thanks to half-centuries from Ravichandran Ashwin (54 off 92), Wriddhiman Saha (67 off 134) and Ravindra Jadeja (70 not out off 85).
Overnight centurions Cheteshwar Pujara (133) and Ajinkya Rahane (132) could not add much to their overnight score.
In reply to India's mammoth total, Sri Lanka were left reeling at 50/2 at stumps on day two with Ravichandran Ashwin taking both the wickets.
