It was an emotional homecoming for Indian techie Hamid Nehal Ansari as he crossed the Wagah border and reunited with his family after being released from Pakistan’s Mardan jail after 6 years.
33-year-old Ansari was detained by Pakistan’s Intelligence agencies in 2012 for allegedly illegally entering Pakistan via Afghanistan.
Pakistan’s agencies had claimed that Ansari was an ‘Indian spy’ who had illegally entered the country and was involved in anti-state crimes and forging documents. In 2015, he was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment by a military court for possessing a fake Pakistani identity card. Ansari’s jail term had ended on 15 December but he wasn’t able to leave for India as his legal documents weren’t ready.
After an emotional reunion with his family at the wagah border, he will fly to his hometown Mumbai on 19 December.
