As the country braces itself for Budget 2017, Hindustan Unilever Limited’s Sanjiv Mehta spoke to The Quint and said his expectations pivot primarily on the power given to the consumer this financial year.

Mehta added that as a consumer goods company, he seeks more money in the hands of the consumer that can be brought about by reduced direct tax rate. This would result in an incentive for investment and therefore more employment opportunities.

Additionally, Kishore Biyani, Chief Executive Officer of the Future Group conglomerate, said the primary goal of the budget should be to boost consumption which will lead to development. He further added that India as a country always witnesses consumers boosting their savings. However, now it is time to boost consumption.
