A BJP youth wing leader on Wednesday offered Rs 11 lakh for West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s severed head.

Yogesh Varshney made the offer a day after the state police resorted to lathicharge on Hindu Jagran Manch supporters during a Hanuman Jayanti procession in Suri, in Birbhum district.

The supporters, who were shouting slogans in praise of ‘Shri Ram’, had allegedly defied restriction and prohibitory orders, according to media reports.

Police set up an iron barrier on JL Banerjee Road which the rallyists tried to break through, prompting the law enforcers to make a lathicharge.

At another place on the outskirts of Suri, thousands of people ignored a police ban to participate in a rally taken out under the aegis of an organisation observing the Bir Hanuman Jayanti. The Suri police had on Sunday told the organisers that it would not allow holding of any rally or meeting at Suri on Tuesday.

On Monday, the organisers asked police to allow the rally after assuring that they would not carry arms. However, police did not budge from its stand.
