He may have played hallowed roles in the many movies he claims to have scripted, directed and produced from scratch, but Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh is now going to play Kaidi No 1997 in Rohtak’s Sunaria jail.

The sentence accorded to Gurmeet Ram Rahim is 20 years and not 10 years, clarified Haryana Chief Minister ML Khattar. Singh has been given a 10-year sentence each for two separate rape cases, that will run consecutively and not concurrently.

He has also been fined Rs 30 lakh, Rs 15 lakh each for the two separate rape cases. Rs 14 lakh each will go to each of the victims.

Jagdeep Singh, the judge who sentenced the Dera chief, was flown into the heavily guarded Rohtak prison from Panchkula. To ensure law and order in and around Rohtak district, the Haryana police claimed to have put in place multi-layered security cover and even issued shoot-at-sight orders on anyone meaning to trespass in the jail’s premises.

Ram Rahim was convicted by a Special CBI court on 25 August in Haryana, which held him guilty of raping two women followers. His followers then descended on the streets of Panchkula, clashing with security personnel and setting media vans on fire. At least 38 people died in the ensuing violence.
