The Indian government does not want to welcome Rohingya Muslims who are fleeing persecution in Myanmar. In an affidavit filed in the Supreme Court on Monday, the Modi government listed its four main concerns:
1. The large influx of illegal immigrants from neighbouring countries was altering the demographic profile of the bordering states.
2. They pose a serious national security threat.
3. The govt claims that some of them have links with Pakistan-based terror organisations.
4. And finally, some of them were found to be indulging in anti-national activities like mobilizing funds through Hawala networks, procuring fake IDs and human trafficking.
Whatever proof the govt has, was submitted to the Supreme Court in a sealed envelope. The matter will next be heard on Oct 3.

Arjan Singh, a war hero, a legendary fighter pilot and the country’s first and only Marshal of the Indian Air Force – was laid to rest with full military honours at Brar Sqaure on Monday. A 17-gun salute and a fly past by IAF’s Sukhoi 30 fighter jets was carried out in his honour.

BJP President Amit Shah appeared as a witness in the 2002 Naroda Gam riots case. Amit Shah told the sessions court that Maya Kodnani was not present in Naroda Gam, but was inside the state assembly between 8:30 am and 9:30 am on the day of the violence.
Kodnani is sentenced to 28 years in jail and is currently out on bail. 11 people belonging to the minority community were killed in the riot. A total of 82 people are facing trial.
