A car caught fire on the busy Dadri Main Road near Noida Sector 15A around 9:45 am on 9 February.
The passengers of the Honda City – which had a Delhi license plate – fled to safety, while the blaze raged for over 10 minutes.
Police did not cordon off the area, putting the commuters passing by at risk. The incident occurred during peak morning traffic hours, with many office-goers zipping by on vehicles, taking care to avoid the blaze.
The fire brigade arrived at the spot and contained the blaze. However, the fire personnel were not wearing protective gear and did not take the adequate safety precautions for the task at hand.
While the 10 minute response time is noteworthy, the incident raises the following questions:
Why was no standard procedure followed?
Why didn’t the Noida police cordon off the area?
Why were the firemen not dressed in protective gear?
