Devotees from across the country thronged Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura on Wednesday to play Lathmaar Holi. Lathmar Holi is a festival that celebrated days before the actual Holi takes place in Barsana and Nandgaon near Mathura. 'Lathmar' means 'hitting with sticks'.
Unlike any other Holi played across the country, Lathmaar Holi involves not just an array of dry colours, but also sticks and drums. However, the main attraction of this special Holi was the presence of actors dressed up as Lord Krishna and his consort Radha. Additionally, music and dance performers from Rajasthan and Haryana too added their aura to the high-spirited event.
Domestic tourists travelling during the Holi weekend this year has more than doubled compared to the corresponding period in 2016: an online travel agency MakeMyTrip said in a report. It also revealed that there has been significant growth in hotel bookings for Holi for specific destinations like Mathura in Uttar Pradesh (107 per cent) and Pushkar in Rajasthan (120 per cent).
