While the common man waits in queues outside banks and ATMs to withdraw his hard-earned cash, the chaos caused by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s demonetisation move has not spared even the dead.

In Modi’s constituency Varanasi, people are having a tough time performing the last rites of their deceased relatives. From wood sellers to priests at Manikarnika ghat, everyone is unwilling to accept the old currency notes. This, despite the government directed crematoria to accept the old notes.

The demonetisation scheme will help fight black money, but as of now, it is making the path to ‘mukti’ for the deceased difficult.
