In what is yet another in-vitro fertilisation success story, Ludhiana couple Sukhwinder Kaur and Mohinder Singh are now the proud parents of twin girls.

The Kaurs were left devastated when both their sons passed away due to electrocution in 2010.

Since then, they had visited several hospitals and religious places to bring some joy to their life in the form of children. Their mission concluded at the Rana IVF Centre where Kaur, 50, was able to conceive twins through IVF.

For those who don’t know, IVF is a medical process where the sperm and the egg are fused outside the body and nurtured into an embryo. This embryo is later transferred to the woman’s uterus for it to go through the rest of the natural process of pregnancy and birth.

The problem was that because of menopause, her uterus had constricted. First, we had to develop the uterus through medicines before we continued with IVF. The IVF was successful in the first cycle and it was a twin pregnancy. She had lost two kids and are now gifted with two twin girls.

An overjoyed Kaur believes that their lost children have come back to them as twins.

It is God’s blessing that we received these two girls. We don’t feel they are daughters. They are our sons.

The IVF is increasingly becoming a preferred choice for couples who can’t conceive children or where the woman has already hit menopause. Although expensive, this is a very safe procedure and the risks are minimal.

According to emedicinehealth.com, the IVF was used successfully for the first time in the United States in 1981. More than 4 million babies have been born worldwide because of using in vitro fertilisation techniques. The IVF offers infertile couples a chance to have a child who is biologically related to them. In 2015, more than 1.6 percent of infants born in the US were a result of a pregnancy conceived by assisted reproductive technologies.
