A war of words has broken out between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress ahead of the crucial Karnataka Assembly elections on 12 May. A day after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah trained guns at the BJP, even taking pot shots at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah, his chief opponent BS Yeddyurappa came up with scathing counters.

Yeddyurappa is confident of his party gaining an absolute majority and forming a government in the state. Putting to rest all predictions, speculations and opinion polls projecting a comeback for the Congress party, the BJP’s chief ministerial candidate claimed that people are fed up with the current government and want a change of power. Reminding voters of the unpredictable victory of the BJP in Uttar Pradesh in 2017, Yeddyurappa said that he is confident of recreating that magic in Karnataka.

People have decided against Siddaramaiah’s misrule and corruption. More than 3,500 farmers have committed suicide. Development work is at a standstill. He had promised to spend Rs 10,000 crore on irrigation. Every year, in the Krishna basin, he was expected to spend Rs 50,000 crore but has only spent Rs 6,900 crore. In all the spheres, he has cheated the people. The people are fed up, they want a change.

A day after Siddaramaiah claimed that his is a scam-less government with no charges of corruption, Yeddurappa countered him by mentioning how the people are disappointed with the corruption and breakdown of law and order in Karnataka. He has further accused Siddaramaiah of “destroying Bengaluru and making it a rape- and crime-infested city.

There is no safe seat for Siddaramaiah. He knows he’s going to lose in Chamundeshwari so he opted for Badami. For sure he’s going to lose in Badami miserably. In the 12 May elections, the BJP is going to get an absolute majority and come to power on 18 May.

Yeddyurappa has also attacked Siddaramaiah for referring to Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath as ‘North Indian imports’ in a recent tweet. “Are Rahul and Sonia Gandhi from Karnataka?” retaliated Yeddyurappa.
