Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on 17 January 2018 wished the Tamil community on the occasion of Pongal.
On his Twitter handle Trudeau shared pictures celebrating the festival with the Tamil community of Canada and wished them luck on the auspicious event.
In the photographs the Canadian Prime Minister was seen donning the traditional Tamilian attire, with a white Dhoti, yellow silk shirt and an angavastram.
"Iniya Thai Pongal Nalvazhthukkal! Had a great time celebrating Tamil Heritage Month and Thai Pongal in Scarborough this evening," Trudeau Tweeted.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by John Tory, the Mayor of Toronto. The duo helped prepare the traditional meal, also called 'Pongal' — a dish made of rice and lentils.
In the past, the Canadian PM wished the Indian community of Canada on the occasion of Eid, Diwali and Baisakhi.
According to the 2016 census, around 157,000 Tamil people live in Canada.
