In a one-and-a-half hour meeting with Girish Chandra Tripathi, the Vice Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University (BHU), the Triveni hostel students asked queries related to the violence and safety concerns on campus.
The VC said to the 15-odd students present:
I am like your father and you are like my daughters.
On the lathi-charge, Tripathi said that he did not have adequate knowledge about it. He made a contentious claim regarding the student protest.
By protesting, you have sold the girl’s (victim) pride in the market.
Students were also detained at the Chanakyapuri Police Station in Delhi on 28 September evening, after their meeting with the officials of the National Commission for Women.
We are detained in Chankyapuri Police Station without giving us a cause of arrest. We met the NWC and were seeking an appointment with the PM and with HRD Minister. As we did not get an appointment from the PM, we were going to give a memorandum to his secretary but were under surveillance and were detained from the road... I was the only female in this and again there was no female police official when they detained me.
