Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, citizens, and political leaders – cutting across party lines – joined hands on 21 January, in an attempt to break the record for the world’s longest human chain. The event was aimed at promoting the state’s liquor ban.

CM Kumar released balloons to mark the start of the event, which went on for 45 minutes at Gandhi Maidan. The chief minister held hands with RJD chief Lalu Prasad and state Legislative Assembly Speaker Vijay Kumar Chaudhary.

BJP leaders also turned up to support the event and joined the chain in Siwan.

The CM, Lalu Prasad and other leaders stood in lines to form a map of Bihar in Gandhi Maidan. An image to symbolise prohibition accompanied the word Bihar – written in dark blue – at the center of the map, allowing the spectacle to be captured through satellite, drones and helicopters.
