In a setback to the Congress ahead of the upcoming polls Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) polls, which is set to take place on 23 April, former Delhi Congress chief Arvinder Singh Lovely quit the party and joined the BJP on Tuesday.
"Former DPCC President Arvinder Singh Lovely, a former Minister, and former Youth Congress leader Amit Malik joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in the presence of party chief Amit Shah," the Delhi BJP said in a tweet.
Reacting to Lovely’s switch to the BJP, former Chief Minister of Delhi Sheila Dikshit said:
Drawing parallels between hers and Ajay Maken’s tenure, Dikshit said that no member thought of quitting the party while she was in charge, and went on to blame the current president of the Delhi Congress, Ajay Maken, for party leaders jumping ship.
