In order to help children of Gujjar and Bakerwal community in Sonmarg region of Jammu and Kashmir, Indian Army under Operation Sadbhavana has started free and open schools in the area.
The children of poor and nomadic communities are given free books, lunches and other items along with free of cost school education. Most of the kids have never been to the school before and it required a lot of effort to get them started, said one civilian teacher associated with the operation.
The students who are getting education from this school appreciated the step taken by the Indian Army. They feel that the initiative will help them in securing a brighter future. Indian Army under its civic action program has started many programs for the benefit of local Kashmiris.
