An exemplary police officer, a martyr and a father -- former Maharashtra ATS chief Hemant Karkare’s daughter explores all aspects of the man her father was in her new book titled, ‘Hemant Karkare: A Daughter’s Memoir’.

The book was launched in South Mumbai on the eve of the 26/11 terror attacks that shook Mumbai 11 years ago. Deputy National Security Advisor and former Maharashtra DGP Datta Padsalgikar was invited as chief guest to the event.

Former Commissioner of Police of Navi Mumbai KL Prasad and former Additional DG and Commissioner of Police of Nagpur appeared at guests of honour.

In the book, Jui Karkare Navare recounts different incidents from her father’s life and sheds light on the various roles he played, be it that of a police officer, an artist or a father.

“He was always very methodical and neat and organised in everything. He always had a plan for everything. Even smallest things like, if you opened his cupboard, everything was neatly arranged. We almost joked that he had a photographic snapshot of how things are because if me or my siblings managed to touch his cupboard and moved a few things around and tried to keep it back in the same place, he would say that, ‘Somebody has changed things’.”

While addressing the gathering, Hemant Karkare’s former colleagues and friends too recounted his habit of always being organised. “He had a diary and every day he would jot down his to-do list,” they recounted.
