16-Year-Old Mumbai Student Allegedly Beaten for Not Having Aadhaar

The teacher who allegedly beat up the student has been arrested by the police.

The student was hospitalised after he suffered a head injury.

16-year-old student, Suhail Ansari of Oxford High School, was hospitalised after he was allegedly beaten up by his school teacher for not possessing an Aadhaar card.

The teacher, identified as Shyam Bahadur Vishwakarma, has been arrested by the police, reported ANI.

Vishwakarma denied the charges when the student’s brother confronted him, but the CCTV footage later made it clear that Suhail was indeed hit with a stick.

The teacher allegedly hit the student on his head, where he already had an injury, and the latter fell unconscious on the way to Sion Hospital in Mumbai. A case was filed at the Ghatkopar police station under sections 323, 324 and 375 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the basis of the CCTV footage and after the parents of the student lodged a complaint.

When the kids were asked if they have their Aadhaar card, his friend sitting in the back jokingly said that Suhail doesn’t have one because of which the teacher got angry and beat him up.

The student was admitted to the Sion Hospital in Mumbai and his condition was said to be stable.
