Amid growing disquiet over the proposed Ramayana Museum in Ayodhya, Union Tourism Minister Mahesh Sharma on Tuesday reached the temple town in eastern UP to survey 25 acres of land on which the museum is expected to come up.

Sharma’s visit comes at a time when the government has come under sharp attack over its proposal to set up the museum dedicated to Lord Ram. While SP leader Gaurav Bhatia accused the Modi government of playing politics over Lord Ram, BSP Spokesperson Sudhindra Bhadoria said that the Centre was trying to hide its failures behind such grand projects.

Dismissing allegations of playing politics over religious sentiments, BJP MP Sanjeev Balyan said that his party had ‘never politicised Lord Ram.’
