Legendary Indian tennis player Vijay Amritraj celebrates his 63rd birthday today.
He was born in Chennai to Robert Amritraj and Maggie Dhairyam. Vijay became a professional tennis player in 1970. Ten years later, he achieved his career-best ranking of world number 16 in men’s singles.
Vijay Amritraj was ranked number one in Asia for 14 years and holds the record for the longest run in Davis Cup play. During his glorious tennis career, Vijay won 16 singles and 13 doubles titles but never won any grand slam titles.
During the golden era of tennis, Amritraj and fellow tennis legends Bjorn Borg and Jimmy Connors were known as the ABC of tennis.
