India recently took the silver medal at the Champions Trophy and finished third in the World Hockey League in 2015. The berth to Rio was sealed after they won the gold at the 2014 Asian Games in South Korea under the captaincy of Sardara Singh.

India is grouped with Argentina, Canada, Germany, Ireland and Netherlands, and will begin its campaign against Ireland on 6 August.
