Jai, a 7-year-old, 250 kg tiger has been missing since April 2016 from the Umred Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary in Nagpur.
The big cat was the most popular one at the reserve, always posing for pictures with the tourists. He was last spotted on 18 April, after which the radio in his collar developed a snag, making it difficult to track his whereabouts.
Residents of Nagpur performed Puja on Monday, praying for the safety of the tiger and hoping that the big cat returns to the reserve safely.
Jai came to the reserve in 2013, after traversing nearly 100 km in search of a mate. This is also not the first time he has gone missing, and rescue teams in pairs of two are looking for him.
Wildlife lovers and photographers have come together to launch possibly the largest tiger search operation.
